Hanaminoes

A tile laying game by PJ Becker

Highlights

  • The largest same-color bed of flowers scores, but only for the players with tokens in that area. Balance moves between growing a flower bed and placing tokens.
  • Double tile actions can quickly turn a round to your favor. Overlay tiles, move tiles, or even move tokens after playing a double tile.
  • Tiles scored each round are kept to track score, changing the tiles available in later rounds. Awareness of what's missing will help you make the right choices.

Primary Mechanisms

  • Tile Laying
  • Push Your Luck
  • Area Control

System Requirements

  • Players: 2-4
  • Time: 20-30 minutes
  • Ages: 8+

Components

  • 36 "hanamino" flower tiles in 6 types of flower
  • 16 animal tokens in 4 types of animal

Description

You and the other players are gardeners in a friendly competition to leave your mark on the garden.

Every turn, you will place flower tiles in a shared Garden area. Balance placement between color-matching to grow a bed of flowers, and matching numbers to place animal tokens. Only the largest bed of flowers scores at the end of the round, and every player with markers in that bed will claim the tiles under them as points.

Placing double tiles allows you to take a special action. Overlay tiles, move tiles, or even move markers to swing the game in your favor.
